The SSAG 2012 Student Conference

Hosted by the Department of Environmental and Geographical Science

University of Cape Town

Theme: Building Critical Conversations in Geography

The theme for 2012’s SSAG student and academic conference is ‘Building Critical Conversations in Geography’. For the student conference, this means pulling together different disciplines in Geography and Environmental Sciences to promote collaborative multidisciplinary knowledge-making and discussions around geography in South Africa. Quite literally, this means bringing together students from different departments and universities to talk about their research; this may include thinking about forms of knowledge production, how knowledge is created in our studies in geography,  as well as how knowledge is shared and presented between disciplines. This conference aims to create conversation between departments and disciplines to foster new academic relationships and to critically engage with the future direction of geography in South Africa.

Date: 17-20 June 2012 (SSAG academic conference 20-22 June 2012 @ UCT)

Venue: Upper Campus, University of Cape Town
